As SCE continues to grow, so does our team! We’re excited to bring Jacob Medow onboard as our new Design-Salesperson. Jacob designs closets, shower doors, mirrors, and more, and works with builders to bring it to life for our clients. Jacob joined the team in August 2021, so to get to know him a bit better, we asked him to share more about his history, his passions, and why he’s excited about being at SCE.
What brought you into the construction/installation world?
Surprisingly, I can thank skiing for setting me on the path to construction. I lived in Vermont for about 20 years and skiing was one of my biggest hobbies. I ended up working as a professional ski patroller for about 10 years at Stowe Mountain Resort. During the summers, I kept busy in the off-season by doing some carpentry/construction work, and that set me on the path to building trades.
For the last five and a half years, I sold insulation in the Chicago area. Fast forward to a little over two months ago, I found SCE and was drawn to their values and their work and knew this is where I should be.
What are your dream projects?
I really enjoy working on custom homes, especially ones that are architecturally interesting, and designing all of the cool features that really elevate a home.
As far as dream projects in my personal life, I love restoring vehicles. In general finding new, creative ways to get things to work is something I’m passionate about doing no matter if I’m at work or at home.
What is the most important career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Everything comes back to communication. If you focus on good communication, you can build strong, long-lasting relationships with clients, your coworkers, partners — anybody. I really prioritize this. If you call me and I don’t answer, I’ll get back to you the moment I can. If somebody comes to me with a concern, I take action. This is important no matter what industry you’re in, but especially in construction and installation.
What are you most excited about at SCE?
The team. I’ve never had the opportunity to work with a group of people who are so dedicated to staying organized and efficient — it’s really refreshing. The behind-the-scenes work and systems that are in place are impressive. I’m excited to be here and to be a part of the company’s growth.
